TheTravelsketcher’s Tuesday Tip – April 1, 2025

“Don’t think about making art, just get it done. Let everyone else decide if it’s good or bad, whether they love it or hate it. While they are deciding, make even more art.” – Andy Warhol

We artists tend to either be a bit cocky or too insecure, neither of which are benificial. I remind myself that some of my personal favorites get little response, yet some that I deem mediocre get great reviews, go figure. I am not sure we are the best judge of our art, and I am certain that others are not the best either. Art is subjective, which by its very definition means it is based on feelings, tastes, or opinions. Some of my pieces are favorites of mine just because I enjoyed doing them, or they captured a moment and a memory.

The important thing is to get paint and ink on paper, enjoy the process, and be thrilled when someone likes what you did – and enjoy spending the money if they buy something. I am glad I never made my living by selling paintings, I have sold enough to consider myself successful, but have avoided painting just to produce inventory.

  1. I have some paper….but need to get the paints. I am really nervous about getting started….but need to take the plunge.

    1. Remember, do the shapes first, that is the key. And you can’t do it wrong.
