A workshop, Le Saint Julian’s, and Texture – A Good Week

This has been a good week in the world of theTravelsketcher, moi.

The last workshop I did was in August of 2020, when we had a brief relaxation of the COVID requirements in our part of the US. Recently, a group of our neighbors asked if we could do a workshop here in Normandie, I was more than ready, since I miss the good times we always had. In Mukilteo. So yesterday we did, “Oui ! Vous pouvez faire de l’esquisse de voyages !” (“Yes! You Can Travelsketch!”)

We met at le Chateau de Domfront. The group were all pretty new to sketching, yet they did so well. I can’t wait to see what they turn out in the future.

On Tuesdays, Tricia goes to a conversational French meeting, I should go, but instead I take the opportunity to hang out at one of the many cafes, ok, one of the few cafes, in Domfront to do a bit of sketching. This week I went to le Bistrot Saint Julian’s, less than 100 meters from the Chateau, one of our favorite places in Domfront. The day was sunny, so sitting outside and sketching the restaurant was a natural.

Recently, our view outside has been brightened up by many Jersey Tiger moths, their backs are vivid black and golden, the underside of their wings are bright orange.

This week I downloaded textures for Procreate on my iPad, it makes it look as if you were painting on watercolor paper – what better subject than dreaming of Paris. I like the look of it.

A good week! I know that some who follow this blog were part of the workshops we did in 2019 and 2020, are you still sketching? I would love to hear from you.

As always keep traveling and sketching.

WOW to the advent of your recent travel sketching workshop–and at a Chateau! Perfect photos of people gathering together to learn something new and special, just as I did with you several years ago. So glad the workshop was a special experience for you and your students. And yes, I am still sketching; okay–just croissants–but that works for me. And not every day or I would have to purchase another airline seat for our upcoming visit to France. And as for that ‘Procreate’ program on your iPad to give it a ‘done on watercolor paper’ look. I am amazed. Love the picture you created (and not just because it has the Eiffel Tower, but because it’s wonderful!) Thoroughly enjoyed the sketch of the butterfly that knocked on your front door. While there is way too much sadness and destruction right now in certain parts of the world, it’s heartening to unexpectedly see a lovely butterfly. There is beauty everywhere, isn’t there….

    1. Thanks Shirley, we did have fun those years ago but the best part was the friendship that developed between the four of us.

Understandably. Do more in Normandy! It appears you have a bushel of eager students, and limitless beauty to sketch.
