What a week in Portland and the world

Eight days ago we drove from Seattle to Portland, the last leg of our journey from France to the US. Portland will be our home now. What a change for us, it was almost 38 years ago that I moved from my hometown of Portland to Seattle for a job, married Tricia, and settled in the Puget Sound area. I remember thinking as I drove north on that Memorial Day weekend that I would one day return to Portland, well I have, but what a journey it has been.

We are staying with friends until we move into our new apartment in the Pearl District of Portland. We watched a fascinating documentary about a man who photographed the many bees in his yard in the UK during COVID – it was worthy of a sketch.

Wednesday brought new meaning to the “morning after the night before.” At a loss for words I could only sketch how I felt after the election.

One of the best parts about staying with Tim is the music we play. This image of his mandolin and the globe to reminds me of all the travels we have done this year along with the music yet to come.

Here are the last two people-on-the-street photos from Paris, I will have to watch for new ones here in Portland.

My new Guerrilla 5×7 Pocket Pochade box is all ready for some oil painting, hopefully soon.

It will be good to be moved and settling into our new place over the next week or so. We have a shipping pallet on the way from Charleston, and we have a storage unit in Mukeltio that we will bring down next week. Art takes a bit of a hit when being busy gets in the way, but soon it will be back to some kind of normal – it would be nice if the world could do the same.

Hope you are well and your journeys are safe, keep traveling and capturing the moments.
