This week – End of March, already?

It is hard to believe that 2025 is almost 25% over. Our life is not fast paced, but active enough, with plenty of time to just read, paint and write blogs – and of course cook. Yet the days pass by so quickly.

Spring is a wonderful time in Normandie. The trees sprouted leaves, the fields there are ready for the first mow of hay, and the dairy cows leave the covered barns where they have spent the winter; it is quite a sight to see. When they are released from their indenture they gallop and leap around the pasture like young calves.

Spring also meant walks were a bit more enjoyable, this is the road right next to La Thebauderie, we walked it often.

These last months I have had a fascination with fantasy sketching and painting, Procreate works so well. I did try one in oil paint but I will spare you the results.

I think there will be more in this sequence, the path in the third sketch continues on, what adventure awaits us there? It is fun to just let your mind go and put down what you create.

This month has reminded me about the beauty of spring in the PNW, but especially in Portland. Blossoming cherry trees and pear trees line so many streets. The tree outside our window that served as a sleeping spot for the crows when barren, is now dazzling white.

Earlier this week I took a cup of tea and a sketchpad out to the terrace, near where our garden spot is – this will be a regular event soon.

We started this last week with a family gathering in the Sky Lounge, on the 16th floor. We grilled sausages, had salads, and dessert. It was the first time this whole group has been together, ever. The special treat was that Adam and his caregiver came, he loved talking with people, playing games, and of course eating.

We are feeling pretty well settled in now, more art is hung, and we have a routine that works. We started swimming laps three times a week at the club that is just two blocks away, and we walk a mile or so everyday. My Guerrilla Pochade box is all set and ready for excursions in the neighborhood, could happen any day now.

Tricia is posting a blog today about our stop in Acapulco where we released baby turtles into the sea, it was a moving experience, check it out.

Hope your spring is blossoming for you, and for my friends down under I hope fall is amazing. Keep on sketching the moments of your life.

Love all your sketches full of atmosphere but have looked and read twice at the beginning and end > have just ‘come’ from the baby turtles in Acapulco and am laughing about the happy cows let loose from their winter ‘prison’ 🙂 !
