This week – The Pearl and beyond – May 9, 2025

It has been a happily packed week, mostly that is. Saturday we went to Cascade Cliffs Winery in Hood River to pick our Spring Cliff Club wine release. The weather was just right for a drive in the Gorge. The conversation and charcuterie board were a perfect paring.

Sunday we went with Alexis and Joe to Al’s Nursery in Sherwood to pick up tomato plants, Patio Baby Eggplants, some seeds, and organic fertilizer – no Miracle Grow for us.

After planting and tending to the garden we relaxed and I did a couple of sketches.

Someplace in France

Then my mind went to Normandy and Neville, even after all this time that cat still tugs at my feelings.

Monday we headed back to the Oregon Coast, Salishan Resort and Spa. We do love the coast, and of course Tricia loves to do what she does so well, take photos. Her blog this week is Images in Green.

We had lunch Tuesday at Tidal Raves Seafood Grill in Depoe Bay. My panko coated rockfish with risotto and roasted brussel sprouts was matched by the stunning view.

Back at the lodge I set up my pochade box and painted – there is nothing like sitting in the sun on a warm day and painting.

Sadly, that afternoon Tricia came down with a cold so we headed back to The Pearl on Wednesday, a day early, thankfully she is feeling better as I write this. We watched an episode of A Place in the Sun, bien sur.

We are enjoying spring, I found a small place just down the street with Parisian-type sidewalk tables. Spent a couple afternoons reading and people watching, not quite Paris, but this is pretty hard to beat.

Have a good weekend, enjoy the sun, and do a sketch. Thanks as always for following, and commenting.

Nice travel sketch of the golf course. Did you just paint the hole or did you also play it?

Wine and seafood and the ocean AND a Parisian Style Cafe: it HAS been a good week. All this sprinkled in with family and good times and memories of The Best Cat Ever–Neville of Normandy. Oregon and the Pearl District suit you both so well right now. Who knows what comes next–next week, next year? There are always gran aventures ahead! (Love all of your sketches and oils…!)
