We have been traveling in Central Oregon this week so not a lot of time for deep thoughts. I lost a pencil sharpener while we were in Prineville, and Prineville has nothing even close to an art store. We went to lunch in Redmond, which is a much bigger and is sophisticated enough to have an art supply store.
The shop is called Art & Music – both the owner and the shop are such a delight. It was bright, inviting and well stocked. Half of the place is art supplies, the other half musical insterments, mostly stringed. There is even a large glass-enclosed room for trying out a guitar.
I found the sharpener I needed, but, as always happens, was intrigued by a 4×5.5in black ProArt sketchbook. That of course meant I needed a white acrylic pen and brush.

So I have been experimenting, and quite pleased with the results. It is easy to get dramatic images. I have Micron white pens, and white pencils at home, will be trying those soon.

If you are in the Redmond – Bend area and are either musical or art minded, stop by Art & Music. AND, OH! Just as I was starting to write this post I found the lost sharpener, bien sur.
I’ll be interested to see what you do on the black paper. And isn’t always the way, you think you have lost something then find it again after replacing the old one?

It sure is, double of a few items, just for that reason.

This is so cool! The white on black gives the vibe a French menu boards! Glad you had a good (and successful) time) visiting that beautiful area of Oregon!

I found Bend and Redmond too busy. I do not enjoy traveling along US 97. It is nice that one can visit those cities if one needs something special. When traveling in the area I always opt to stay in Prineville. I have friends there and it is a bit slower which is what I need at this stage of my life.

Being foodies Prineville was pretty slim, though we found one bar that was good.

In our household we have a few theories about missing or things you cannot find. If it is a personal object, such as your pencil sharpener, one of our past cats has taken it and put it in a bag or a box. For what reason, we don’t know. It is just a fact of life.
And then, if you are in the market, looking for something specific, and you have walked past it 2 or 3 times but cannot find it, it has been taken into another dimension. The only way for it to return is when you ask a grocery clerk for help, and they point it out to you – usually just in front of you. Grocery clerks have more power than they know, so don’t mess with them!
I am going to have to give the black paper – white marker a shot.
And I love Bend – good to know there is an art store in the area – I will have to check it out next time I visit my friends there.

I think your theory is spot on. I was sure I put the brass pencil sharpener in the appropriate pocket of my bag. I emptied the bag and ran my hands around, to n avail. Yet, the sharpener was in the pocket after all, maybe your cat played with it then like a good kitty put it back?
Our cats loved to knock things off of tables, which meant they rolled to some corner under something.

You will be pleased to know that I have started my daily journal colour squares (credit card rectangles) which I’m using as part of my mental self care. I look forward to getting out my little Winsor and Newton set each evening for a couple of minutes. I’ll send you a photo when I’ve done a few more… thanks again for the idea.
