This Week in Eastern France

We have been to the south of France many times, Paris many times, and of course we live in Normandy, but we have never been to eastern France. This week we were in Champagne, Lorraine, and Alsace.

Our first stop was Troyes La Champagne. It was about half way from La Thebauderie to Strasbourg. We noticed quite a change in architecture.

We met up with Tricia’s sister and family in Lesseux, a small village in northeastern France. The BnB was nestled in the trees with abundant plants.

We are off for a brief drive through the Black Forest, then ending up in Basel, Switzerland.

These sketches are wonderful. I love the borders you drew around the flowers. And as always, it’s a pleasure to read your notes. What a beautiful journal you create for yourself. Thank you for sharing.

    1. Not all that long ago I was going to switch to all digital sketching, because of the problem of storage for paper art. I gave that up after Alexis said my journals would be the story of my life for her after i am gone, nice thought.

You are having a such a GREAT time traveling. Thanks for taking us along with you through sketches and commentary. We have both lived in Germany at various times, and the Black Forest is lovely. Interesting isn’t it, how the architecture in Eastern France resembles buildings in Bavaria and southern Germany. Your sketches are lovely–as always–but even in those you can see the slight difference in the cafes and surrounding buildings in France, Germany, and Switzerland. (I loved the little sketch of purple flowers–lavender?!) Thanks, Travelketcher! Enjoy your continued travels!

    1. As always you make the best cheerleader and encourager. Yes they were lavender ai think. The architecture is an interesting thing. In Normandie it looks like southern England, then as you drive south it changes and ends up like what you are so familiar with in Provence. And then as you pointed out, by the time you get to the far east it looks Bavarian. Thanks so much.
