Umbria is not umber,

We are in the Umbria region of Italy which is where the color umber got its name. Umber is a very dark brown color, and burnt umber a common color on pallets, but the color does not represent the ambience we are experiencing in Umbria. It has been a delightful place to visit and to sketch. How can you beat this for a way to spend an afternoon?

Thanks to Tricia for the photo

We were in Assisi, sitting in this courtyard listening to a violinist playing mostly opera pieces, how good is that.

We are staying at an AirBnb in Perugia, we will be here for another week. Here are some of the places we are possibly going to visit.

Our first meal in Assisi was in the same plaza that I sketched, wild boar pasta, it was perfect. We went back to Assisi the next day and ate at a Michelin listed restaurant, you can read about it in my post on Been There Eating This.

We went to Spoleto, which is famous for their arts festival, another good meal al fresco.

The skyline in Spoleto is dominated by Rocco Albornoziana, a castle built in 1359.

Yesterday we went to Castiglilione del Lago, a village on Lake Trasimeno. Another beautiful hilltop village.

Yesterday I did a painting for Tricia’s post on our time and the food tour we took in Lyon. It was a gray day and we were instructed to fine our guide by looking for an orange umbrella in front of the Temple du Change, here is the result. You might want to read her description and see her photos at Travels Through My Lens.

It has been a good trip, now we are off again for Assisi, that place is just so appealing.

Hope your journeys of today are full of peace and joy, and of course keep on sketching.

Good fortune for you, to be in the Italian countryside. In 2016 my husband and I spent three glorious days in Assisi before motoring on to Rome. My favorite view was from the plaza in front of St. Clare church.

umber may be dark brown, but this posting was a kaleidoscope of colors. I absolutely loved your series of sketches of the plaza and busker in Assisi–what an amazing experience. And the sketch of the street in hilltop village was lovely. You are seeing so many amazing things–thanks for capturing and sharing the sights

Man, you two. You are living an amazing life. Loved your sketch of the stucco wall and high-up window in Spoleto. And not just because it was in Spoleto. The composition made me pause and look, and the sketch was a delight.
