A good week in and around The Pearl. We did take a couple of drives: Tuesday to Hood River, Thursday to Raptor Ridge. This is a perfect time for drives, the fall colors are perfect.
Going through some photos from our recent trip to John Day Fossil Beds triggered an oil painting. Our unit is a corner unit with floor to ceiling windows, perfect for painting; thankfully Tricia is completely fine with me setting my easel up and leaving it.
Sunday we had a comfort food meal: Steak bites, and pomme anna – one of my favorite things Tricia makes, which is a long list for sure. The rest of the week we enjoyed The Pearl – Tricia swam, we visited Brix Grill one afternoon, and took a couple of walks. We of course ate but nothing too energetic, some seafood, and potato and leek soup.
Tricia posted a second blog today about our trip to the John Day Beds, so I did a couple of sketches and updated her map of Oregon that she is using. Be sure to visit her site and see the photos of this beautiful part of Oregon.
Thursday we did a video chat with Nikki & Alun, friends and former neighbors when we were in Normandie. We are so glad that we are able to keep in touch with the people we know from a country we love. There are days I curse our technology, yet thanks to it we are all able to keep connected. Thank you for following this and being a part of that global group of friends.
Fall is a good time for sketching, grab some orange paint, a bit of yellow and red, put some blobs on the page draw a couple of trunks and a line for the background and you have an autumn sketch.

Nice sketch of the bighorn. Remind me somewhat of the mountain goats in the Olympic National Park.

Don’t publish this response, but I have too. Hiked up from Hurricane Ridge and ran into the along the way and too close for comfort knowing they are unpredictable and you don’t want them head butting you.

Have just reposted Tricia’s story to friends around the world – still have not ‘discovered’ her email address to ‘show and tell’. Part of the reason methinks was that drawing of yours of the bighorn sheep 🙂 ! SO similar to the photo! You do have good light for your painting but , at the same time, are city-close to your neighbours . . . am not surprised drives away from town are a lovely respite . . .
