Writing this from our deck in San José del Cabo, the quieter village 40 minutes east of the party city. Quiet is relative, but such is life, at least not much in the way of late night revelry here.
The highlight of the weekend, before we left for Mexico, was Saturday when we met up with Alexis and Joe at Guitar Center to get them new strings. Then we went to their place for guitar stringing lessons. The new strings made quite a difference.

Tuesday we boarded an Alaska flight for San José del Cabo. When we are not upgraded to first class – thankfully my Million Mile status does give us a lot of upgrades – we usually take aisle seats across from each other. My row-mates were a young couple headed to Cabo for their wedding. We had a nice chat and she showed me her beautiful engagement ring. I did a sketch and sent it to her so she can print it off.

We had eaten little so the first thing we did was looked for food. We learned that San José del Cabo has a ton of high-end places, with comparable pricing I might add. We settled on Don Sanchez, Oh my, what a place. The outstanding part of the meal was the first course – tuna tartare on avocado with a couple of interesting sauces. The two small gray ovals on the plate came with a warning about their heat, well earned and just as delicious.

Our room at Hotel Colli, which is right in the heart of The Gallery district, has a deck with potted plants.

Today, Thursday, we started the morning at CRUST Baja Baking Center. It is a quiet place, a bit away from the tourist crowd, we were the only non-locals there. Tricia said she thought the decor had a Southern California vibe, it was great. I had an omelet with Black Forest ham, salad, and sourdough toast.

For lunch we went to Casa Don Rodrigo. Amazing ceviche, and enchiladas with verde sauce.

The rest of the day we just hung out on the deck. I did a few more sketches for the day, using a variety of mediums and techniques.

For more photos check out Tricia’s post today. We are enjoying it here, but we both have been surprised at how expensive it is. I am not naive enough to think it would be cheap like Mexico was many years ago, but this is certainly not a budget destination.
Tomorrow we head to a different hotel, right on the beach, can’t wait.
Hope your week is going well, that you have had some adventures, or just some well deserved rest and boredom. As always I encourage you to grab a sketchbook and capture the moments.
Delightful photos and drawings from a stay which is obviously suiting . . . love the look of the food and surrounds all bar a drawing of that power pole which looks far from a safe energy provider . . . :)! Enjoy!

First thing…..your sketch for the young couple was lovely and SO kind. I have no doubt it will mean the WORLD to them! And of course, the first thing you did was look for food: you are the ultimate foodies. Tuna Tartare sounds pretty adventurous to me, but is just another day for the Christophersons’! And what a beautifully plated dish. Your breakfast looked yummy. Enjoy every moment of your time away from ‘hellhole’ Portland–(not!) Enjoy your week in Cabo, on the beach, and then back to your lovely home in The Pearl!

Your comments always warm my heart, thanks. We do like food, and not the diet type, argh. But we walked a lot so we worked it off. Tricia like the tuna as well, a usually she is not a fan of tuna. We are enjoying the warm sun, and of course will enjoy our home in the Pearl of hell…

Thanks so much, your comment made go reread the blog as I thought I had made a mistake, since it is quite expensive here, we were shocked. But it has been some good food and much warmer weather for sure.
