This week in The Pearl – April 3, 2026

It was a busy week this week. It all started with the No Kings March on Saturday. Read more in Tricia’s post today.

Of course I sketched.

And of course we ate our lunches.

Thursday I met up with my friend Tim for lunch at Nick’s, a long time institution in Portland, a kind of dive bar place with a lot of history for me.

We continue to plan for our Europe trip in May, Aix en Provence will be one of our stops. This is the clock tower next to the Marie.

So it was a week of hope in the midst of a lot of angst, the pleasure we derive from cooking and eating good food, a bit of time with a friend, and lots of walks – a good week. I hope your week has gone well and that this coming week has some grande aventure et bon appétit. in it, even close to home. And of course I encourage you to capture some of it in a sketch.

  1. The pork loin dish sounds interesting. I remember you teaching us how to do people in a crowd and can spot it today.

    1. Thanks on both accounts. Have you given the people sketching a go?

  2. I did but they didn’t look as good as yours by any stretch of the imagination!

    1. Lots of practice, there is an annual challenge to do 100 people in a week, I have done it a couple of times. You can do this, and yours don’t have to look like mine, I have confidence in you.

Can you two please be my chef? Your dishes look so delicious! Here in LA, we also had a No Kings Protest last weekend, and a lot of people showed up. Hopefully, change for the good is coming! Thanks for sharing your week with us, and have a great weekend and week ahead!
