Thoughts from theTravelsketcher

Pierre Bonnard – Mimosas through the window.

Last week Gloria Steinem died. She spent her life working to improve the plight of women. Many of the improvements, inadequate as they are, that have been made in the last 50 years are the results of her efforts, sadly she is gone, and the situation is far from as it should be. One of her quotes comes to mind.

“We’ll never solve the feminization of power until we solve the masculinity of wealth.” Gloria Steinem

This got me to thinking about something that Henry Miller wrote.

“If ever we are to witness a new heaven and a new earth, it must surely be one in which money is absent, forgotten, wholly useless.” Henry Miller

As long as wealth is the source of power men will too often disregard, use, and abuse women for political or personal power to gain more wealth, with no consideration for the damage they cause to all people. We need more women in leadership, both to bring a balanced perspective and to counter the dominance of male oligarchs. We need more men who are willing to join women in this kind of leadership.

You get bonus points if you know why I used Bonnard’s painting.
