My heart was warmed when this article from The Wall Street Journal popped up on my screen.

Never would I, nor have I, suggested that “we get together for brunch.” Apparently more and more people are finding the idea of early drinking over pancakes and eggs unappealing.

“About 100 years after the meal spanning weekend mornings and afternoons first gained popularity in America, brunch—a portmanteau originally coined in England in the late 19th century—has by no means disappeared. But the Bloody Mary-soaked, avocado toast-forward version as many knew it seems to be over. ” Lane Florsheim, WSJ

Sunday lunch is quite another matter. As is often reported in our blogs, we love lunch, but our Sunday Lunch is NOT Brunch. It is a two or three course lunch without a pancake or a waffle in sight, as it should be.

Breakfast is fine, even quite good – how can you beat kippers, eggs, roasted tomato, crisp potatoes, etc., in Scotland. Or the wonderful breakfast buffet at our hotel in Helsinki. We enjoy both, then we go out later for lunch, with no desire to blend the two.

I am feeling quite smug knowing that I have been ahead of the curve on this, so in proper humble-smugness mode I just had to share this. I hope you have a wonderful, civilized breakfast and lunch this weekend.
