Seize Jours de Pluie

That is, “Sixteen Days of Rain.” The summer of 2022 was hot and dry, but this year it has been quite different. Getting out to sketch has been a bit difficult, so indoor sketching was in order. I learned a new phrase today while getting my hair cut – temps de grenouille. It means frog weather, quite useful today.

M.A.S.H. Came out in the 70’s and I have been watching ever since. When I was traveling to do seminars I would frequently watch it on my iPad in the hotel, and even today we often watch it. Recently, I have been doing sketches prompted by the TV I am watching, so why not M.A.S.H.

Our friends Claudine & JJ – their alises, to protect their true identity – got us doing puzzles during COVID. We exchanged puzzles often when we lived just down the road from them in Mukilteo. They got us hooked, and we are thankful.

We did have one brief afternoon with mostly sun so I got outside for just a bit.

Just two months ago our beloved Neville left us, we were recently reminded of another reason we miss him.

We of course continue our Sunday Lunch tradition, rain or shine.

On Tuesday, Tricia went to a Conversational French gathering in the medieval part of Domfront. I sat at the cafe just down the street and sketched. It was windy and rainy, drops blew in under the awning, but it was a nice time.

Flowers are always a good way to be creative, I never tire of them.

Whatever the weather is like where you are, I hope you are doing well and staying safe. If it is either heat or rain that keeps you inside, your imagination can still travel, and you can sketch it as you go. As always I love seeing your sketches.

Mice—oh dear….but what a cute little mouse sketch; so French that a little beret wouldn’t look out of place…. (Neville is probably smiling right now…) As for puzzles, it’s an addiction. Claudine and JJ just completed yet another one. I think we have now pieced together every French themed puzzle ever created. And M*A*S*H…? Best series ever….(and worst ending, too). Rain. Nice. It lets you just chill watching TV, movies, or working puzzles. We all need that kind of relaxation time.

    1. We caught a couple of mice, and no more signs for the last couple of days, keeping fingers crossed. We have one French puzzle I don’t think you have, Tricia may have a photo. It was shaped like Eiffel, and pretty tough, but probably easy for you two. I agree about M*A*S*H, and relaxing.

16 days of rain? How lucky you are 😊 Here in NZ we have had almost continual rain over the last 6 months… we escaped to France in June and were warm and dry – now back home, the rain continues. In the NE of of the North Island of NZ (where we live) it has been the wettest first half of the year on record. In the immediate area around us we have had over a year’s worth of rain in the first six months 😥 keep up the sketches, they brighten the day.

    1. I get the rain thing, if this was winter it would be normal to have this much rain, but it’s summer. Sounds like your winter is wetter than normal. I remember a year or two before we moved from Washington we had over 31 days of rain, a record I think. Let’s hope as we move into your spring things will dry up a bit. Glad the sketches help, thanks.

  5. Generally Canada has been very hot and dry although our valley in BC has been faring better for the most part. We have been more inside over the last couple of days because of heat. Lovely sketches.

    1. Dont think we will. We travel a lot and I don’t want to get attached like we were, the loss is sad.

You have the very best journal in the world, Travel Sketcher. It should be published. What a wonderful way to remember your life, and I am so grateful for seeing a glimpse. (Your sketch of the mouse was perfect.)
