Often travelsketching is not as easy as it might seem. On this journey back to visit friends and family in the US most of our time is spent enjoying good company and food, not always time for sketching. We spent most of this week in San Diego, well actually La Mesa, with Tricia’s sister and nieces.
At SEA-TAC we went into the Alaska Boardroom. It brought back so many memories of the years when I traveled for work. The Boardroom and the staff made all those years of travel a bit more enjoyable, some even became friends, frequently I did small sketches for them. The two ladies that checked us in were deserving for sure. So I did these two sketches as gifts. Deb, the one who checked us in, showed her’s to a co-worker, Carol. Well, Carol saw the sketch and asked her, “Is Terry here?” She remembered me from those past years. We had a great reunion and I was so warmed that she remembered those visits years ago.

My defense, explanation, excuse, etc for not sketching much this last week is that our 19 month old grandnephew, was also with us. So I ask you, if you were in the presence of one of the most delightful toddlers ever, who likes uncle “TT”, which would you do? Sketch or invent stacking games?
However I did do a couple of sketches this week, this one dreaming of the fields in Provence.

On Thursday we went to Cabrillo National Monument. While the rest of the folks went to explore the lighthouse I sat on a bench, charged with watching the empty stroller, and sketched the water with the mountains of Mexico and Tijuana in the distance. The sun was warm, the view was perfect – this is why I am theTravelsketcher.

We are headed for the airport in just a few minutes for a flight to Portland and more time with friends and family. We are both excited to see our daughter and son-in-law this afternoon. Hope I do find time to sketch a bit, but if not you will understand why.
I hope your journeys are pleasant this week, and that you take just a bit of time to capture the moment.
Lovely post; it’s been a treat to be in San Diego with family.

You make friends wherever you go, Terry! And it’s not just the sketching–It’s the whole package. YOU are a people person with the sketching as a bonus! We esp love the Provenceal scene included in your post. We wish you both a continued fantastic time with family!

Thanks, I must admit that stacking things with a toddler is quite fun.

Stacking games… that’s what I would do. And must say your sketch of the San Diego coast with Tijuana in the distance is lovely. I really liked your use of tall reeds/weeds in the foreground. It created an interesting screen through which to view the distance. Well done!
