We finish up the Italy portion of our journey this week. We are in Siena today, tomorrow we drive to the airport in Milan, spend the night then have an early flight on Saturday for Amsterdam. What a crazy ride.
We loved Umbria. I remember when we were planning this I thought only of Tuscany, Umbria was not a big thing, boy was I wrong, we loved Umbria and spent almost all of our time there. Here are some sketches from the week.
We went back to Assisi again:

We had Bevagna on our list, we ended up returning just to eat at a cafe that was closed our first day there.

We stayed in vacation rental in Purugia for about 10 days, give or take. It made a good hub for our excursions. I signed the guest book with a sketch.

In Siena now we visited the plaza, called the shell because of its shape.

Then I did a postcard for a friend. She already has a painting of mine with red poppies and they love Umbria so this card. is on its way. Thank you, hope you like it.

Wishing you peace and joy in your day and in your journeys wherever that may be. Keep traveling and if you sketch, keep on sketching.

You know what would be cool for your web page? Get one of those photo editing software packages that will create a transition between scenes and show some of your sketches transitioning to a photo of the same locale (or vice versa).

I like it too, but must say not the drivers so much.

Agreed. The drivers are rather wild!

Your sketch of the tall tees and poppies and the sun—stunning; a perfect representation of Italy. Scrolling through this posting reminded me of why I was so drawn to the idea of travel sketching. While it’s not my personal skill set, it really is a fantastic way to capture those memories. I almost felt like I was strolling through those streets you’ve so beautifully sketched. Thanks!

Thank you so much, but you know I think you can sketch for your personal joy, good therapy for knee surgery I think.
