After two months and eight days we left our apartment in Avignon. Our time there was certainly one of the high points of our time in France, memories of Avignon will linger for a long time.

It is autumn, so a couple of pieces of art reflecting the season. Be sure to check Tricia’s post today on Autumn Colors.

Tuesday morning I walked to the Avignon Central train station, took the 9 minute train to Avignon TGV to pick up a car at National Rental Cars. After a drive back to the apartment, we packed-up the car as it started to rain, said goodby to the friendly cat that has kept us company, then we headed north on the A6 in a torrential rain storm.

As we drove north the rain stopped so it was just cool when we got to Dijon. Wednesday morning we visited the Palace of the Dukes, an amazing palace with wonderful artwork. We took a break in the palace square to people-watch, then it was time for lunch.

Thursday we drive to Kaiserslautern via the Black Forest to visit my step-niece and her family. Her husband is an officer in the Air Force and stationed there. It should be fun being the good aunt and uncle.
We are on our journey to Portland, Oregon. After Germany we will spend a week in Paris, one final fling in that wonderful city, then the Eurostar to London, a flight to Chicago, then on to Seattle for a couple of days, then Portland. It seems just yesterday that we left Mukilteo for a rural village in Normandy, the time has gone by way too fast.
Time flies when you’re having fun

While this was bittersweet–it was also special. You’ve both captured memories via your sketchpad, your iPad, and the lens of a camera. And sometimes you have to save the best for last. Memories last forever.

That is the good thing abut memories, at least the good memories, they do last forever. Yet I am glad that some memories we can forget. We have captured a lot and are ready for the next step.
