Going where its warm

Jimmy Buffet has a line in a song about watching a hockey game when it is 20F outside, he says, “I want to go where it’s warm!” Well, it is in the 20’s in Portland at the moment, but now we ARE “where it’s warm!”

We are on the Norwegian Joy about 50 miles south of Jamaica on our way to Cartagena, Columbia – we will arrive at 6am Friday. It is warm, sunny with 30+ mph winds so the ship is rocking quite a bit but I love it. I am working on memorializing this voyage with sketches which I plan to turn into a book when we return. Here is the story so far.

We spent two days in Key Largo before boarding the ship.

The view from our deck, it seems there are as many fishing boats as there are pickup trucks, there are a lot of both.

The food was perfect, and how can you not love an outdoor raw bar?

After the chaos of registering and boarding we settled in to relax.

I have heard that the conch fritters are excellent but never had them. Is Tim going on the cruise with you two?

Your sketches — and this post — could not be more delightful. I have always coveted your sketch-filled journals, and now this wonderful blog post has given me my own travel journal of our trip through the Panama Canal. And I must say, my friend, you nailed Tim. Your sketch looks EXACTLY like him.
