Interesting week, more than once we have asked: “How did we ever find time to work?” We have been quite active, some fun, some not so fun, and really not a lot of art came out of it all.
The small, 4×5.5 inch black sketchbook reminded me of a gray 5×8 inch Stillman & Birn that I have so I dug it out and did a couple people sketches.

As far as the week goes, well it was not boring. Of course we reverted back to Standard Time over the weekend, I would prefer never doing Daylight Time. And I certainly don’t understand all the talk of adjusting to the change. It is only one hour, like traveling to a neighboring time zone, certainly not like a nine hour change when you fly to Europe. It of course did not disrupt our Sunday.
Tricia made one of our fall favorites – pumpkin stuffed with gruyer cheese, bread cubes, and spinach.

Then, on Sunday afternoon, for no explicable reason, we decided that binging the original Jurassic Park movies made perfect sense. Since we had recently rewatched the first one we started with the second, and before we were done we had watched three in a row. I think it is the subtle character development and the deep meaning behind the roars and screams that draws us in.
Tuesday I took the car in to find out why the engine light was on. After a Lyft ride home, a wait for seven hours for a call, the verdict was injectors – $1700. OUCH! Then I remembered that we had a warenty, so in the end only $150 deductable. Whew! That took up the whole day so no sketching that day.
Wednesday our friends Tim & Lisa came over, one of the first times Tim has been out since his ankle surgery. It was good to see him out and about.
Thursday we planned to go out to lunch with Alexis, but Tricia was not feeling 100% so I baked a cake and made pasta. Alexis brought a bag full of our old photos, we spent a couple hours reminiscing. First question was, “How did I get so old”

A few weeks ago I wrote about journaling with paints, just using colors without worrying about actual sketching. A few people said they liked the idea, I was thrilled when Gail, The Windsor Waffle, sent me examples of what she is doing daily. She uses a credit card to draw her boxes and then colors and adds a note or two. They are great. It appears joyeux anniversaire de mariage is in order.

I am so glad the idea is working out, and I am confident it would work just as well for a vacation. Thank you Gail, keep up the good work.
Thank you so much for following this, and if you don’t already sketch, why not try what Gail is doing, remember there is no right or wrong way to do it, and it is a good way to interact with the moment.
That stuffed pumpkin and cake look fantastic! Sounds like a cozy week in Portland (minus the car trouble). Enjoy your weekend!

I’m with you Travelsketcher – the one hour time change is no different than crossing a time zone. But if we keep the time change I favor holding two “Fall Backs” per year to get an hour of extra sleep twice per annum and within 12 years we are back to the old time.

Hmm, I will have to sleep on that…

The cake looks wonderful – pears?
And I also agree about the time changes – I don’t understand the fuss – it is only 1 hour.
I did try the little square thing but was not pleased with what I did. I need to retire to spend more time on interesting pursuits rather than all the stress of the office.

Thanks for trying, it is so hard in art to not judge our attempts, but you tried so good for you.
