TheTravelsketcher’s Tuesday Tip

Take notice of the insignificant.

“Taking the time to note the character of the less prominent landmarks is a habit… It is only common in three groups of people… artists, experienced soldiers, and indigenous peoples… take time to sketch…”

The Lost Art of Reading Nature’s Signs, by Tristian Gooley

The less prominent landmarks are often the most sketchable as well. Everyone wants to sketch the Eiffel Tower, but I had a delightful time sketching swans across the canal in the 19th arrondissement.

Making it a habit to note the less obvious will improve your sketching and your photography. Some of our best travel memories are of places and sites that are not in every guidebook. Check out the Bourdelle Museum not just the Rodin. He was a student of Rodin but his museum was even more fascinating to me.

Be sure to check out Tricia’s running series on each arrondissement of Paris.

Great advice and perspective. I would add that this applies to life too. Noticing the everyday moments and people that we pass by, all with a story hidden to others. Thank you
